Nisei means second hand Japanese,
Never quite good enough for sofubo.
Hearts torn between Lima and Kyoto,
Dreaming of studying back in Japan,
A home that you’ve never set foot in,
But wanting to work here in Peru,
High up in the Andes mountains.
Exports from the Sakura Maru,
Following the footsteps of Fujimori-san,
Nisei means second hand Japanese,
Haikus in Spanish, sushi and cebiche.
