When a slinky is dropped from a height
the information relay of gravity
travels up
through the coils
beginning at the bottom
the top remains suspended in mid-air
as the coils below
release to the floor
each spiraling downward
as the reality of gravity arrives
finally that undeniable force
reaches the top
the slinky springs back together
falling, in unison, to the unknown

Oldbear63over 10 years agoCatch it! Keep one end in each hand, palms up, and raise and lower each hand so the coils go back and forth - carefully increase the range of motion until the ends actually hop of the palms, but don't get to get back together. I used to think I was happily driving old slinky nuts with indecision. That was before I knew what it was like to be a slinky.
