So red the rose that is waiting to be loved
Grown on thorny stem
with green-leafed glory to gown her.
She waits.
She reaches toward the Sun
petals beginning to open like the flowering of a virgin
wanton in her desires to be kissed with warmth.
Around her are her sisters
coming to life even as she comes to life.
Some older drop their velvet garb
to offer the Wisdom of Life to those newly arrived.
Some even younger just starting to shed
those early dresses of innocence
to ready themselves for the licentiousness of maturity.
Oh but our sweetly scented darling preens
for the attention of the Day—
Licked by the heat of Nature’s desire.
Such are her passions that their lusts
have forever left her to blush.
So red is our rose
waiting to be loved.

So read the rose

A charming little attempt at an erotic poem

that uses the blooming of a rose metaphor.

Phrases like:

"with green-leafed glory to gown her"

are fresh and "imagetic".

A couple of lines might be altered very slightly,

but now we know why the rose is red

and read.

Enjoyable
