It snowed in Atlanta
roads are covered with ice
in a Hampton Inn Hotel
getting ready to roll the dice,
Getting ready to take a chance
on Bernoulli and Newton too
airborne aluminum tube
pointed straight to you,
Fly off through the heavens
“would you care for a glass of wine?”
looking out the window
everything’ll be fine,
I hear those airplane noises
the gear drops with a shutter
then the pilot lands
as smooth as melted butter,
Thread through the masses
get a rental car
follow my smart phone guidance
you don’t live that far,
Climb your front steps
two at a time
take a deep breath
everything will be fine,
You smile and say “you’re here”
“wasn’t sure you would come”
“would you like a glass of wine?”
“here I’ll get you some…”
We sit on your couch
your legs tucked beneath
wearing faded Levi’s
you have very white teeth,
Your tee-shirt has a drawing
some marathon or race
with my wandering eyes
I trace the outline of your face,
I listen to you talk
not sure what you are saying
about work and pleasure
you ask if I am staying,
I say that I would be nice
you say you’d like that too
you smile and say you’re certain
we can think of something to do ….
