Sometimes
I feel like a cucumber
really thick skin
protects my soft mushy insides
protects the pallid flesh
and seeds of my being
Sometimes
I am foolish enough to tangle with
a peeler, leaving me exposed
turn to mush
and rot on a shelf
with the other vegetables

Usually being thick skinned nothing is a bother. Occasionally someone comes along who ~ who rings my chimes ~ the wrong way.

Quiet mystical strength to this work. Comparison to a cucumber strengthens this rendering.

I like this...

you could strengthen it by losing some of the "extra" words, such as "soft", in the mushy insides line, as mushy implies softness anyway.

You have a good thing going and I would love to see you give it some more thought.

hugs to you

Interesting metaphor. If you were a guy, I'd worry about you describing yourself as a cucumber.
