.....her name is Jamie
Jamie starlight to be exact
she was made with lust and love
her creation our intent
she was at our marriage,
inside the woman I love,
as I slipped the ring
on her mothers finger
she was there on our honeymoon,
inside the woman I love,
as we enjoyed our bliss
I knew this little miracle
would change my life
make it better,
just as her mother did
when she said "I do,"
and the days have passed
now Jamies turned three
Starlight's hair flows long
and free, just as the spirit
of the love from which she came
her and her mama
pick me up after work each day
and as I get into the car
I am already home
Starlight and I
we're like a lot of fathers and daughters
I holler she listens
she talks I pay attention
on my days off
she orders her mother
to the computer in the room
and says "I play with daddy now"
no sweeter words have I heard
she rambles when she talks
and together we watch
Beavis n Butthead...or somethin similar
she repeats the lines she hears from me
and I being dad..no prouder can I be
she's a little angel
already proud and free
spittin image of a girl only
her daddy could make...
and I know these days
I'll look back upon years from now...
when we arrive home from a night of long work
when up the stairs I carry her
her head on my shoulder
into a warm bed I lay her
as she slips from my shoulder
and in the dark
her jacket I remove
and gently lay her head
on a "tweety bird" pillow...
I kiss her softly on her cheek
whisper I'll see her "when the sun comes up"
I tell her I love her
and I say sweet dreams
I creep back out her door
trying to quiet my work boots
and as I shut her door...I know
if I die tomorrow...my life is fulfilled
I have the love of her mother
a woman so amazing
who gave me a daughter
with love blazing
though I have no god
I know deep in my heart
I am the luckiest of men
and to this...I say...
amen.
