- After the poems and letters
of Carolyn Page

Buried on the back pages
of a newspaper hidden on the kitchen table
is a story about as nameless man
father of two rebellious youth
who stole cop cars and smashed lives
They're both in prison now
as the father hides
in a bottle of Lewiston gin
losing his memory

She pushes dishes aside
leering through sputtering coal stove haze
at the yellowing lives on paper

There are rebellions in the farmhouse
memories charging out of steamer trunks
to become lost in the melee
of yesterday's dust
The gardens try to sleep
hiding from the cruelty
and dry gusts of northern winds
Fox and hens play hide and seek
October apples turn mealy in the corner
safe from the winter backdrop
of maples stripped of leaves
bushes stripped of youth

To me,

...this is clearly the strongest of your 4 offerings today. The phrasing and imagery is stunning in spots. You are clearly a poet with great skills and I will certainly read every one of your posts in the future, as I have so far.
