STIR

Why do I wake?
I didn’t know you would leave
go away
drift with the mist of morning and dissolve into sunlight.

With the dawning of another day, you become
out of reach
far away
warped like highway horizons on an August afternoon.

My eyes open to this world
and close to another.
Before the answers
the reasons
the secrets
make themselves clear to me.
Before I can know.

I have been almost there
close enough to breathe you
on the verge of understanding
so many, many times.
And never.

And dreams weave themselves
where once I was the spider
now I am the fly.
