Click herea wicked grin of moon
hangs in a ragged sky
torn by wisps of foggy night
as shredded clouds roll by
i sit upon my rooftop
and i pray to god to die
but as the night delivers dawn
i fear i have survived
i used to have a husband
and i lost my daughter, too
the water carried her away
when the slaughterhouse gale came through
that screaming wind has left now
and in its wake, a silence rolls
bigger than the hurricane,
a void, devouring souls
New Orleans is a city
known for jazz and Mardis Gras
but the saxophones are silent
and Fat Tuesdays are all gone
some say we can rebuild Her
that her lights will shine again
but without my man and baby girl
i hope i’m dead by then
I think the folks from the Crescent City would
enjoyed the rhythm here. Nothing really forced
and while it's not jazz, it can be "danced to".
"that screaming wind has left now
and in its wake, a silence rolls

a void, devouring souls"
I loved the line breaks here. sand
story Syn...touching the fiber of disaster and souls who weather the wrath of the elements...much sorrow for our whole society over this one...maybe we can all grow from the shambles of the experience...thanks S..for your view...sighs/blue
An excellent write; shows how all of us have been hit by Katrina, no matter where we're found.
I saw a story in the AJC on-line about a wonderful woman, Cara Chapman, she's special to me, she helped set me free when I was in Atlanta; now she's stressed-out ~ and knowing her, the story doesn't come close to conveying the depth of feeling she's experiencing (and she's a new mom too).
So I hope that writing this piece has helped you purge some of the feelings of grief you may still be experiencing. Very powerfully done.
Thanks.
