i can see you falter
time and again.

when you think no one is looking
you let your mask slip.
(just an inch)

what?
is that envy in your eyes?
could it be?

all this time you've been
hiding
behind a smile
(behind those cold eyes)

i see only one
purpose to your life.
to serve those
who would have you call them
master

a dog of war
you don't know how
to
dream
your will
no longer free.
you follow
you kneel...
your conscience
stolen
away,
you obey...
without question

therein i see
what's left of your soul
(it bleeds,
flutters,
like a weakened
spirit)
struggling
to break free...

until at last, it gives out...

(like a candle...
consumed...
by the dark)
