Soft breasts straining the fabric of your blouse;
lush raven hair spilling down your back;
pale skin reflecting the moonlight;
tender lips parted as you work;
(ripe tomatoes, summer squash, green beans)

you hum a southern mountain tune, as you
craft our night with an unconscious grace.
Your mind is spring water flowing,
and your heart is deep outer space.
(sweet corn, sweet potatoes, turnip greens)

Your body moves to ancient rhythms, and
in the calm sorcery of your home
your kiss burns like blazing forests;
your light touch is a thunderstorm.
(blackberries, muscadines, persimmons)

I listen with unspoken pleasure as
you exhale wet magic in the air.
I swim to your dark eyes and know
that you are much more than you seem.
(spoonbread, sorghum molasses, mint tea)
