Often the earth swells
as the rains come down
flooding her plains.
is that the time of the year?
could it be that
her heart is not any heart
Broken in two and rent asunder
what remains?
The verdancy of baby leaves,
fraught now
with the shine of
lustre and lucre,
row upon row
regimented
and cultured
Gone are the times
when paddles sent the boats
outward and skimmed
slowly across mirrored lakes
Feet coming unstuck
like from quicksand
cloying and then leaving
are these the killing fields
of Today?
