Sword & Shield

I have risked all,
I have raised my shield,
I step in front of the unknown,
waiting to protect.

I stand in front of you, always ready.
Ready to give my life, my pride,
my heart to defend you.

I stand tall, stand strong,
the cold will not stop me,
I know eventually it will fade.

I stand guard, ready to protect you always.
I learn of life, love,
I know of happiness when you turn to me and smile.
You show me there is something worth fighting for.
I know i have something so precious i could never let you be hurt.

I have nothing left to defend, nothing left to love, you've left me out in the cold, the cold that i can no longer face alone.

I search, trying to find what i can to help, protect, defend.
It's different now, what I used to live for is now only worth my life.

What good is a shield with nothing to protect?
The will to defend is gone, it left with my heart.
Even when I search for you, you walk away,
I fight the urge to follow, knowing it will only hurt you.
I hide the fact that I am broken, and try to walk away.

I see him, he protects you, he loves you.
