I've been terrified since long before 9-11,
since I figured out there's no heaven,
that the American dream of a land of the free
is corrupted beyond recovery,
and though most still practice so-called "Christianity,"
the real God is the all-mighty TV:
a whole new pantheon of violence, greed, and conformity.

See crazy Arabs aren't what scare me;
It's these hawks who believe in Yankee invincibility
and know next to nothing of history or philosophy,
It's these schools and rules that box us in,
teach us that only their drugs are free of sin,
that our primal nature must stay locked within;
It's these polite mice they call educated men;
It's billions around the world living in imperial sweat-shops
(and if they ask for more porridge,
they get thugged by the cops.)

They tell us Venezeula, Cuba,
and The Earth Liberation Front are terrorist threats,
and that we should worship their corporations,
Frankenstein technologies, and nationalist ballots;

Well, I say we'd do better to spend some time with Gaiia,
read Trotsky, Epicurus, and Nietzche,
live by tribal law and sleep in tents.
See I've been scared since I was a brilliant, oppressed, ostracized youth;
But lately I'm terrified of how they'll pay me for telling the truth.

Gutsy if confused

I confess to never hearing of Gailia; being afraid of Trotskyism; I like Epicurus but intensely dislike (and disagree) with Nietzsche.

I say no thank you to tribal laws. I can imagine the benign version you have in mind, but tribal laws are what have been guiding some of the worst oppressive and murderous empires countries and regimes...to this date. And I will get sick in tents... Even if you meant something more symbolic, the list still does mot hold together (Epicurus and Trotsky?)

The last two lines must be (I hope) a change of mood into a self deprecating humor: unfortunately the lines of unemployed brilliant truth sayers go around the block several times before they reach any paying agency...not much of a market to truth sayers now days (or back to any past I can remember...)

Many times I wake up and share your mood (especially with regard to the Corporatocracy in the US, but when I look around me, there are many good people here who want change just as much as you, we just have to get our act together…
