Hurry hurry do your shopping
spend your money now
throw your income
to the economy

gobble gobble gobble gobble gobble

Don’t forget wrapping
and chintzy decorations
it’s not the holidays without the chintz
and loosening your belt a notch

Make your cookies
with little silver balls
and red sanding sugar
take them to a party
or an open house or a friend’s

Feel the pressure to make it perfect
your kids are only young once
ahhhh must buy most-desired toy

empty out your pocket book
fill up the stockings
isn’t the true meaning of Christmas
annual, personal bankruptcy?

Or wait, is it just something
to get our minds off
how dark it is when we leave work
and how cold it is as we trudge to our cars
and how wet and sticky the snow is
as we kick our boots against the car door frame?

Funny, sad, honest

I think you pegged it in the last stanza. But it always kinda makes me wish I were a literal believer.
