The inspiration hits, revelation's fist
Has struck, and earnestly
The pen is taken in the hand.

But what commences with such promise
Rapidly disintegrates. The noble thought
Grows maudlin, the result is quite unbearable.
As the muse is drowned in alcohol
The words become illegible.

The creation is aborted, the promise unfulfilled.
The dormant genius, pen in hand,
Is now a babbling imbecile.

Another dream has been deferred
Another talent squandered.
The muse betrayed in favor of
The drink to which he's bonded.

Another light is fading, diminishing until
The world, so gray a place already,
Grows even darker still.
