The Blood Knows

In the mid 1800s this nation fought
a senseless war that brought much
pain and grief, and thousands upon
thousands shed their blood, and now
they lie beneath the sod throughout
the whole wide land, especially the
East. So we should honor those who
died that brought so much grief to
loved ones, families. and a nation.

The blood knows well when things in life are wrong
just as it knew in the sad Civil War,
or as the South had called it in their songs
The War Between the States and so much more.
And yet, no matter what the name, it did
divide this nation by its fought-for sides
with many soldiers not much more than kids
who now lie dead for whom the nation cries.
The North fought for the nation's Civil Rights.
The South fought to protect its way of life.
It matters not why either joined the fight,
but oh there lie the dead because of strife.
So Dixie raised its flag with battle cry
as did the North as hist'ry passed on by.
