He slid
Over the ground
Leaving a trail
Of something akin
To mucus

Reminding me
Of some of the men
I dated when I was
Young

His body appeared
So soft and yet
I knew if I chose to
I could smash him
Like a bug

And in doing so
End his journey
To rebirth
From slimy bug
To beautiful butterfly

So I let him
Slide on by

I like the idea in this but think it might be stronger if written as an extended metaphor rather than simile
