The Challenge

A challenge to me you present,
you did not arrive as others.
With words set out to capture me,
the wellspring inside uncovered.

Through cyberspace so gallantly,
you knocked upon my door.
With verse in kind I blatantly
invited you in for more

Sweet words of wine,
you served a fragrant brie.
You have surrounded my heart so fine,
I cannot escape from thee.

So very slowly you made your way,
marking your path upon my soul.
Staking out from day to day,
the territory for your goal.

I wrote you a taste,
hoping for a sweet reply.
You showed all was not a waste,
though remaining cautious and shy.

Time has passed and we boldly go
where others have feared to tread.
Feeding ourselves most greedily.
upon each other's daily bread.

No end in sight, we stumble
grasping to the written word.
Vowing never to sway or crumble
clinging to every verb.
