For years now,
I've been living
in Virtuallia

It's a fine place to be
(if you came here,
you'd see,)
a real land of opportunity...
a metropolis hard to rival
economically, intellectually,
or culturally

We've orchestras from Italy
worshipping Vivaldi;
We've amateur art-scapes
set to the music of Hendrix,
The Beatles, Donovan, and more;
We have the mountains of Tibet
and California's shore.

We have citizens from Thailand,
Cameroon, Peru, and Pakistan:
in truth, from most every land.
And across oceans and past wars,
we extend a friendly hand

and The University of Virtuallia
is like none you've ever seen:
the students throng in millions
and anarchy's the dean.
Those who'd keep the masses ignorant
can hardly make a dent...
for web-sites are silicon ants
carrying poems, recipes, and rants

And, lads, you can meet a girl:
I've met quite a few,
and there's time to talk
and ask key questions...
before sensual scent
and all that emotion

Yes, there's abundant beauty
under the virtual sun,
and the great city
isn't far from anywhere...
or anyone

But remember,
it's what we make it:
the silicon dreams of today
could fade to technocratic gray.
Great cities have fallen before...
look at the wondrous ruins
of Angkor
