The small red fox ran across the field,
With the Foxhounds baying at her heels.
While behind the hunters came riding,
Urging the hounds on with loud horn peels.

While the hounds run, the horn peels again,
Urging them onward with lusty sound.
The fox feels the danger, and runs on,
While the dogs try to run her to ground.

The fox swims a pond to lose her scent,
Because she's such a clever critter.
But the hounds search til they pick it up,
Because these Foxhounds just aren't quitters.

As they start once more, the horn peels out,
Urging them on from three fields back.
The hunters only hear the hounds bay,
Because they've lost all sight of the pack.

The small red fox knows where to go next,
And she disappears in the briars.
She's finally made it to her burrow,
She's won her race for life, and retires!!
