The Jewel of The Rogue
shines brighter than a thousand suns.
If faced with my good fortune,
I know what all men would have done.

Investing all hope in this rare diamond
was the course that others would have run,
were they blessed with my good fortune,
and knew she was The One.

But this gem was just passing through my hands,
another stop to enrich one more life,
with her carat, cut, colour and cleavage --
but never destined to be my wife.

For this jewel belongs to no one,
and least of all to me.
She's fearsome and she's feisty --
forever destined to remain free.

Staring at my naked finger,
I am bereft and must admit defeat,
wishing I was the last in her provenance,
so she could make my life complete.
