She was a maiden young
of wealth and some class
she had a lot of brains
she had a lot of sass

He an older king
fortune gained and counted
he had his fill of horses
and the lovely whores he’d mounted

But one thing the king has lacked
in all his fame and might
is a loving soul to fill his heart
and keep him warm at night

The queen she was chilly cold
a proper fancy mate
kept her husband distant
her life was too ornate

They met one night while feasting
eyes connect across the room
she’d have sworn she saw a light
and felt a massive boom

His eyes sad and lonely
unfulfilled from years of gluttony
hers eyes had hazed over
from descent into monotony

He called her to his chambers
wishing to embrace her
she cautiously approached
not trusting and self unsure

He whispered words of sweetness
and kindness and romance
she giggled and flirted
placed her hand on his pants

He leaned in to kiss her
and she quickly pulled away
“My lord we cannot do this”
He heard his lady say

“yes, my dear we can” he said
“for we were meant to be
quiet down your fears and doubts
and come away with me”

He loosened her gown and groaned
as it fell to the floor
she was so beautiful
more lovely than his whores

No woman had gotten to his heart
as much as this young maid
he felt his walls crumble
his feelings in cascade

he told her all his secrets
how empty he had been
and how he’d give up his kingdom
to see her face again

She held him close and kissed him
soothing all his fears
promised she would hold him
through his golden years

But as the story often goes
life kept the pair apart
but each never forgot the marks made
by the other’s beating heart

You are too kind, Oldbear. I worked on it for maybe an hour late one night, later than I wanted to be up, which is why the ending is sadly abrupt.

Wonderful phrasing, Lesse

Too many to pick out favorites. "He felt his walls crumble, his feelings in cascade" really stands out for me as well as the rhyming without contrivence through out. Did you work on this for a while?
