A quiet lonely evening
like the last humid night of summer
no breath of fall yet to come
that prayer of cooler days, cooler nights
for this monsooned desert
Wondering
hope against hope
where is the brighter day
that better life
a dream at the edge of sleep
before the dawn
just before just before

Some days the glass is just a glass
full of nothing, maybe air
but no essence
Wondering
ever find substance
empty for so long
Awake before the sun again
couldn't sleep want no dreams
even more empty than the glass
