Everyone is gathered now, give the Q and let the show begin

They have come to see my finest performance, my shining moment

Huddled about patiently to see if naught but a glimpse of the starlet friend

Dressed in black elegance and pity, sporting solemn, sad stone faces

Interpret the storyline in their minds, but I read the script from a different view

Closer to me the better they feel, they choose to plant their sorrow and take places

A few decide to speak for me to share memories and give utmost praise

Remembering what I had been before this one frozen moment

Glorifying my earlier, younger and less mundane days

My best production yet, the one etched in minds, the enticing last show

Now the crowds begin to thin, throwing wilting roses at my side

Crying for they are sad to see that now our time is up, I must go

As the last curtain is called I silently assure them “Do not mourn for what I will never be”

Close the lid with indifference and let the credits roll, receive me into dark immortality

The red petals touching a cheek, and with my eyes closed I’ve found it’s easier to see.
