Different people have different opioids:
modernity all but requires them

Religion's the opioid of believers,
immorality the greedy opioid of deceivers

sports are the opioid of the hooligan,
money the opioid of the business-man

cream and honey the opioid of the glutton,
promiscuity the opioid of the wanton

whisky's the opioid of the lush,
insanity's the opioid of the "touched"

fame's the opioid of the smiling public man;
power's the opioid of those who rule the land

Modern man lives under an electric sun,
rides zooming speeds of steel,
and takes in the synthetic
with virtually every meal

There are as many "addictions"
as there are types of humans,
and the only ones who live "naturally"
do so in misery, stupidity,
or third world poverty

Why then do so many look down on me
when I say with honesty
that my opioids are opioids?
