Gentle raindrops patter softly on the grass;
My own face a mere reflection in the glass;
Warm yellow light pours through the panes;
I look down at my clothes all covered with stains;
A family sits at the dining room table;
I try to control my tears, but I'm barely able;
They laugh and talk as they eat their meal;
I paw through their garbage for something to steal;
After dinner, they head for the television set;
I stand here freezing with my clothes dripping wet;
I'm not mad at this family for all that they own;
Adolescent envy is something I've long outgrown;
But still I turn away, from this house clean and neat;
It's time for me to seek my own bed on the street.
