Like a great sea of water
And a young child that has walked along
Its beaches, rivers, and streams.
For a long time you admired its beauty
Finally, you decided to carefully reach in.
At first, the water was slightly tepid
But soon you got used to it,
And sooner yet, it seemed to even warm up a little.
Initially, you just moved about
Watching the ripples along the surface.
Yet the water still clung close to you.
Sometimes you’d try to cup the water in your hand
And selfishly carry it away
But as much as you tried to
It would always fall through your hands
Leaving just a few drops to remind you what had been there,
And where you’d been.

You liked how it felt,
So you gradually eased your way in,
Despite your anxieties.
In that process, making very few waves.
And it surprised you, when you realized
That you were all the way in.

Within this great sea of water
There are few shallow areas,
Some areas to wade in,
Others are very deep.
But there is always a safe shore nearby.
