the poet
wearing his tool belt
his saw and thesaurus
measuring the space
cutting on the chalk line
methodically
precisely
measure twice
cut once

each word trimmed to fit
neat against the next
no need for glue or caulk
nails or screws

held together
by mutual attraction
the gravity of nouns and verbs
without punctuation
or capitalization

the poet with his tool belt
drinking a beer
at the end of a hard days work
