By Jack Gates
Softly, the evening shadow cloaked the room,
time to put on the light, to expel the gloom,
I love this quiet peace of the eveningtide.
with the days labour at an end so I can bide,
to write a poem or to answer a friends letter,
or just to sit and do nothing if I thinks it's better.
We are not meant to go through all our life,
hustling and bustling which causes so much strife.
Peace and tranquility is gifted, within us all,
if only we could pause, allow it to call.
Allow us time to think and to ponder,
of all the days gone by and even yonder.
It is funny how the mind, so often strays,
still helps us to remember all those yesterdays.
Then, somehow, only nice thoughts stay,
the unkind memories just fade away.
It is so sad how age creeps up on us all,
when the Autumn of our lives begins to fall.
Nay, there is no more rushing to catch the bus,
we just stand and wait for next one, no fuss!
We all pray for tiny miracles in our twilight,
to ease our pain, to lighten the gloom of each night.
The gift to turn written words into poetic rhyme,
above all, to enjoy peace in our remaining time.
