...a much needed experience around here
It will wash away many things
But not everything.
The Sun will rise tomorrow and the air will be crisp and clear
The flowers will begin to bloom and the birds will start to sing again
Yet...
People will still draw lines in the sand
They will remain divided by imaginary politics void of common sense
Humanity, Compassion and Understanding will still be little more than
Words in a book or something you can write a check for and forget
Homes and businesses will be washed away or torn down
Displacing the communities and people who were once there
Entertainers will sing songs and raise money and say
"How sad"
Then they will hit the bars and nightclubs to
"Help the economy"
People still trying to live the great lie will step out and pretend they're much younger
Men will still wear T-shirts and shirts with gothic/ industrial prints on them
Women will wear tight jeans with Bedazzled butts
The drinks will flow
The food will be scrutinized
And the conversation will be as deep as the puddle in the parking lot.
The rain is pounding on the sidewalk outside my window
It will continue to do so for quite a while they say
During this time
Politicians will continue to pass gas and do little else
Gun issues will come no closer to being resolved...
... because no one really wants to admit what they're really afraid of
Sabers will still be rattled globally
Books won't be read or written
Paintings won't be painted or viewed
Plays won't be written or performed
Music will still be trying to re-invent itself again
Tomorrow I will walk the streets of a freshly washed city
Looking all shiny and new in the cool clean air
I will try not to see the graffiti riddled underbelly that
Everyone likes to pretend doesn't exist
The hidden cancer that grows everywhere in this world these days
It breeds ignorance, intolerance, hatred, bigotry and indifference
Which we readily accept
As long as it doesn't interfere with our lives and agendas
The rain is here
It will bring much needed changes
I wish it would bring more.
