Your name strains against my throat
and swells my hands and chest.
Replaced with intangible utterances
it is swallowed and held safe inside.

Another night spent in the shadow
of my own making, my thoughts reach
for my heart's desire as a stillness
resounds the words I never spoke.

The rivers flow and the rivers burn.
Reality is etched in the furrows left behind.
