The Secret to Winning at the Track

Some people count sheep to help them fall asleep.
My disgrace, I think of nothing but a horse race,
Even after, when I’m dreaming deep in sleep.

I wish I could pick a winner; a long shot at 100-1.
I wish I could leave the track and never go back,
With all my money back won.

I dream of the jockeys’ numbers and bright colors,
Crossing the finish line first in record time,
And way ahead of the others.

When I awaken from my nap on the couch,
Is the only time I leave the track a winner,
My winnings in a big bank pouch.

Everyone wants to win and hates it when they lose.
But, I’ll never lose again as long as I pretend to win,
And stay on my couch to snooze.

light and fun

I love your poems. They are light and fun and I don't have to wrestle with my brain trying to understand what it is they are about.
