The waves have gone.

"A Bird's Eye View"

From blue shadow grows the golden warmth of morning
The sea is calm, no crashing or hissing
A gust comes and goes scattering the grains of sand
Willy nilly across the tempered plains of white.

Lone gull above, still, against the blue.
Wingtip feathers gesture magically,
Writing his gentle spells on the air.

His beak points sunward and what does he see?
Frozen pale waves of sand to the horizon,
Weeds hiding mice, rabbits and nests --
A curious fool, sitting naked in a spot of light.

He hovers, descending to the empty, wide shore.
Feet touch, once, then twice and settle.
He shivers, tucking wings ,downy quills puff,
Squatting to warm his legs from the damp.

Alone, sitting, facing the sun and thinking.
