the girl's got bangs
and even when you lift her hair
to stare into the murk
that is her irises, you fix
on that one little, greenish fleck
where you hope that life
has somehow taken hold
will grow and thrive
and even colonize
like in the galápagos
it did

and then you think
one thing more: finches

Who is the you? If it was me I wouldn't be thinking of finches. Is the you, you? Careful with the personal pronouns. It hinders here.
