bottling the will to live
death over dead grass
watching that coyote twitch
wrist thick cuts of flesh
put another round in – stop that
twitching, watching congregations in
mass – Hail Mary Mother of – flies
on fur, on eyes, on entrails, on disease
sitting by the side of a road, dust
moats trailing, sighted in, amber intake
down on the airstrip – click, fly
hot metal, disturbing the moats
tricking the eye, it’s dead
less than a year, more
than a – vision blurred
hunter gatherer, weekend
retreat – dreams in flight
nightmares of black and
white, eating field mice,
anger at that bright orb
denying the meal, a coney
and the steel beast of
noise and – holy shit! burning!
bleeding and, razors in lungs and those
flies! they knew…
