i sing of eyelids and light sockets
of filaments and firmaments and
of moonbeams and sunshadows
and flickering fireflies that signal
the urgency of finding a mate

i sing the song of daybreak
of rosy dripping dawn as she
rises from her dark bordello
and to the thing in my lit heart
that sizzles like the tail of a comet

i sing to illuminate
and to the possibilities
of the light we call love
and to the eyes that open up
to the blaze of each fluttering day

i sing a neon song to the electric world
and to the lightning flash as well
and to the plunging of the bolts
and to the light that calls you away

i sing this song because
this is the song of light
and if i ever find the time
i will open up the sun
and then i will really shine.

Ohhh Steve!!!

This is masterful! It is Whitmanesque in its oratorial repetative, chanting quality, but I feel the influence of the great sensualists, like Neruda, in your images. I would lose the last stanza though--I think ending with the current next to last one makes for a better poem. The current last stanza is a conclusion that one can already infer from the poem, so it seems unnecessary to me. And btw--the metaphors are just wow! Great read. :)

I Hear You

It is not "the body electric".

and you are slightly out of tune,

But I hear you.

Now teach the coyote how to sing.
