"To Begin Again"

You stared at me,
across the existence that exists.
A smile wrapped around your lips,
a longing expression I know from afar.
I close my eyes and remember,
the way you feel against me.
I know you.
Maybe not from now.
But from before.
From a plane not really parallel.
From a place inside my sleep.
Behind eyelashes and brain cells.
You are a place I know well,
sweet and sour, and crazy.
Like velvet between your fingers,
and sand between your toes.
I long for you,
your touch, your emotion.
I know it so well, I carry it.
It's like my own.
It's quiet with a storm brewing,
just off the shores of a harbor.
You're there. You control it.
The drops fall from the sky,
and as I lift my eyes, you smile.
You are a memory from a time I shouldn't know.
From a place I can't quite place.
I know you.
But not from here.
From there.
And at the same time,
we're together.
Like here.
Like now.

There's a link,
and I'll eventually get it.
It's like opening a gate,
and watching the water swell.
Baby, there's going to be a flood.
But it's okay,
because you understand.
I know you get it.
We don't talk about it,
but I'm not sure it helps.
When it's time, we'll know.
I hope.
And when it's time,
all that's good will die away.
And we'll be left to begin again.

I like what you did here...

some of the lines could be trimmed and it gets a bit prosy in areas, but it flows with a natural rhythm that drew me into the words. Keep this poem, look at it from time to time, play with it some, but do keep it, there is something here.
