Today,
She walked to the store.
The sun weakly warmed her skin, pale from a long winter.
She smiled at the storekeeper.
He smiled back, that neutral smile of a carefree mind.
She cut the grass, sodden from a winter's crying.
She drank her coffee, marveled at the pale fragility of the fingers curled around the cup.
She watched the cat without memory playing, carelessly indifferent, with a mouse.
Suddenly a thought came,
So shocking as to be alien.
She had not thought of him once that day.
The sun beckoned, the world was full of light, promise and kisses.
