my love cannot walk
quite a plain and straight line
over your varied terrain

forget those hills and valleys
that are your ordinary glory
however picturesque

they are and are
for i seek out history
not postcards or party favors

something for that journal
where my heart
lives stalwart founding father

so take a memo, sweet ms carlson—
one in my native tongue

One hell of a memo.

are and are?

Who would have the audacity to connect a repeating intransitive verb with a conjunction? I won't pretend to even begin to fully appreciate this piece as a whole (my next 15 or so readings should help), but the "are and are" is magical. Yeah, i know, praise praise praise ... sorry about that: It's just so fucking GOOD.
