I think it is that children know the truth,
Know what is and isn’t in our wide world.
They see what we dismiss, and say ‘this is that this is,’

At the drawing of the night, as light gives way,
They know the heat of horror, the terror of truth.
Adults dismiss this, as it was dismissed for them.

‘The sound was nothing. The night is empty. There is no Boogeyman.’
The mind is a powerful thing, as it can create with belief,
Create the things we believe if our minds can fully imagine.

Look, then, to the madman, the lunatic.
Call him paranoid, call him schizoid, if you must.
But he fears only truth, as his adult mind can create his fear.

His mind is clear enough to see what he believes,
And thus to believe what he sees, even as it is created.
It is not madness, then, but awareness.

In his mind he holds a view unrestricted by dictation,
A world where truth holds true, where seeing is believing,
He sees clear the nightmare the child glimpses cloudy.
