Here at my desk
looking out at the day
computer indifferent
looking away,
writing a note
a lover from when
suggesting we might
get together again,

Very unlikely
time and space
my mind will always
remember her face,
we spent a night
some centuries ago
Paris rain
was turning to snow,

The lift was broken
hiked up the stairs
the Pension
rather thread-bare,
the wine was cheap
the bed squeaked loud
we floated through
the night in a cloud,

Next morning we took
a bus to a Boeing
a cold, cutting wind
was blowing,
we kissed and said
we'd meet again soon
but two thousand miles
split us by noon,
