Uncertainty

In the dark I contemplate
What will really be my fate?
At the end of life's long ride,
What happens on the other side?
Death is sure, there is no doubt.
No one yet has gotten out.
Kings and paupers, queens and whores,
All are taken to other shores.
Is it dark infinity?
What, exactly, awaits me?
So I ponder in the gloom,
Is it happiness or doom?
What will happen to my soul?
Am I gone or am I whole?
Even after all these years,
Through the triumphs, through the fears
Still I wonder what's for me.
Out there in infinity.
