Upon awakening...
with sleep slowly turning to reality
of where I am, what I am,
                   and who I am...
I look beside me to see you there.

There's a kind of peace
knowing you are with me.
Knowing you trust, and believe in me.
The things we share...
this bed, this place in time...
all the things that make you who you are,
                        and what makes us... us.

If I didn't have you
to keep me going forward,
there would be a void.
A void that couldn't be filled
with sad songs, or others that smile my way.

Lie quietly, my love.
Be still, and let your dreams
        take you where they may.
I'll stand watch over you.
and keep you close... and safe.

It's almost midnight.
The time when outside you can hear the stillness
                                 of the world around you.
Leaves are rustling quietly.
Shadows from the street light cast dark,
                                 almost sad images.
But there is the dawn in the hours ahead,
                                 and the sun
                                     will again shine.
So will you, held steady here
                        in my thoughts,
                               in my arms,
                                    and in my love
