Wake Up To Today
By Jack Gates

The settling dusk sun endarkens the land,
evening breezes rustle through rippling leaf.
Ushering in the night by its cooling hand,
lengthening mysterious shadows beyond belief.

Listen, to the silent birds! No singing lark!
Day sounds are diminishing along with the light.
No heralded noises now, it is the looming dark,
inevitable, it's true, the day gives away to the night.

Wake up! Do not dispair! Here comes the Dawn!
Now, you can hear the birds chattering in chorus.
It's another day! No need to be morose or forlorn,
time to be happy, elated and somewhat Illustrious.
