We thought we saw the heavens shine on high
When hand in hand we stood upon life's peak.
Now wistfully we search with dimming eye
In vain to find the upward road we seek.

Too soon extinguished by the sands of time,
Our memories are but a fading flame.
I tell you of our lifetime's happy climb;
You gaze at me, but do not know my name.

We bow before our God's immortal plan
And render up the substance of our lives,
But ponder on our life's uncertain span,
And wait in hope until that day arrives

When we again ascend to heav'n above,
And standing, shine on earth below with love.
