Leaving is easy, it's staying gone that's hard.

Time heals as they say.
Dulling the pain of loss and casual betrayal
Leaving only the distant memory of sleepless nights
and times less than good

But this pain and this loss,
These memories,
Those nights

They're all that kept the good times at bay
They're what made us forget the wonder and the love
The sense of being complete,
The sense that what was
Was right

Something wonderful that was lost
But is slowly regained each day,
The pain receding over time
like the tide
Leaving only the loss.
The missed opportunities,
The might have beens
and the sad remains that could have been us.

Memories of good times now past,
Undimmed by the years or the pain
Tantalizing hints of wonder unborn
Something lost that seems more real than anything yet found
