Where hast thou gone, dear heart?
Hast thou left me?
Hast thou left thy fortress?
Hast thou traveled?
Traveled to the spot
Where the sun shone so bright.
Where on the hillside the trees
Swayed so cheerfully and green,
Like they were dancing in the breeze
Mocking you and your solitude?

Are thou gone there, dear heart?
Hast thou truly left me?
Hast thou gone to lay in the twilight?
Thou canst not be very lonely there.
For that is the spot one I know lies.
Sleeping soundly and peacefully. Dreamlessly.
Unaware of the world and your presence.
You love the sleeper, don't you, dear heart?
But the oblivious sleeper doesn't know it, my dear.
He never shall.

Where hast thou gone, dear heart?
