(These lines were written after finding, by chance, a photograph of three past loves).

Who gets the golden apple?
You, innocent Suzanne,
Springtime, virgin-green and yellow,
Whose love I knew, and never wanted.

Who gets the golden apple?
You, Wenda in your self-made world,
Summer-bronze and full woman,
Whose love I wanted, and never knew.

Who gets the golden apple?
You, ever-faithful Jo,
Autumnal red, scent of peaches,
Whose love I never knew I wanted.

Who gets the golden apple
Now it has fallen from the tree?
Winter white – no one makes a claim
To love I shall always want, and never know.

In my personal experience...

each of my 3 past loves would get nothing but the apple core. LOL!

But seriously, this was a great reflection upon past relationships.

I'm reading...

...through your collection of poems. It's a tasty spread all right, so I'm savouring each one. This one held me attention so I'll tell you now, I loved it - the whimsical lilt and tender regrets. Thanks, I'm off to read some more.
