so many times
you have said
you’ve got rhymes
runnin’ ‘round your head
‘bout me
but who else would it be?

and there were times
we’d sit all day
then you’d turn
and to me you’d say
i love you
but who is foolin’ who?

i can’t tell you how many times
you thought you had fooled me
you thought i didn’t know
or maybe wouldn’t care
you thought i wouldn’t dare

once upon a time
i believed those rhymes
i think that you
did so, too
there’s nothing more to do

somewhere along the line
you ran out of time
but you just kept on
i wish you knew
how i love you

just one more time
you begged of me
but now it was clear
for me to see
that we weren’t meant to be
